The topic of diversity in the workplace has become a very talked about topic in recent years. And rightly so.
What is equality in the workplace?
Seems like a silly question, but its an important one. Equality is fair treatment for people of every walk of life regardless of gender, race, disability, religion, age, sexual orientation, nationality etc.
Two primary parts of equality are diversity and inclusion.
Diversity is understanding and accepting the differences between people, from disabilities to differences in education.
Inclusion is when every person is valued, heard, supported, and respected, generally feeling a sense of belongingness.
Businesses and management teams play a crucial role in making the workplace equal, inclusive and diverse. Equality in the workplace ensures equal opportunities between staff, equal pay, and are well accepted for all of their differences.
It’s important to start the process from the hiring process, including blind recruitment or removing any prejudices that might exist. Taking full advantage of the talent pool is key in embracing diversity and inclusion.
Training and mentoring staff is also very important. We are in the middle of offering all of our staff training on diversity and inclusion, so everyone is aware and upkeep the high standard of diversity and inclusion.
Company culture is very important to us, as we aim to create an atmosphere where all of our staff can thrive, are comfortable and feel valued. Building this culture of acceptance is key to business success. We are allies and should work together. Everyone wins or no-one wins!
““It turns out that advancing equal opportunity and economic empowerment is both morally right and good economics because discrimination, poverty, and ignorance restrict growth.” -Bill Clinton”
